Lee Ufan Museum
Lee Ufan Museum (李禹煥美術館, Ri Ūfan Bijutsukan) is a must-visit destination on Naoshima Island, blending contemporary art with stunning architecture. Opened for the 2010 Setouchi Triennale, this museum showcases the work of Lee Ufan, a renowned Korean artist who has made Japan his creative home. The collection features large-scale installations crafted from stone, concrete, and iron, as well as early paintings that highlight his artistic evolution. The serene atmosphere and minimalist aesthetic of the museum create a unique space where visitors can deeply engage with the art.
Designed by the famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the museum seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. Just like Ando’s other works on Naoshima, including Benesse House and Chichu Art Museum, the Lee Ufan Museum uses geometrically structured concrete to harmonize with open spaces and nature. This artistic haven offers an immersive experience where modern art and architectural mastery come together, making it a must-see for contemporary art lovers.
