Nakamachi and Frog Street are about a 5-10 minute walk from Matsumoto Castle and a 15-minute walk from Matsumoto Station.

Nakamachi
Nakamachi-dori (中町通り, Nakamachi-dōri), located just a short walk from Matsumoto Castle, is a charming historic street lined with well-preserved buildings from the Edo Period. The area, once home to local merchants, showcases traditional warehouse-type structures with white-painted walls. Today, many of these buildings house shops, restaurants, and ryokan, offering visitors a taste of Matsumoto’s past.
Parallel to Nakamachi-dori is "Frog Street," a quaint pedestrian lane filled with small shops and cafes housed in traditional buildings. The street, named after its connection to the nearby Yohashira Shrine, earned its nickname during the Meiji Period. A frog statue at the entrance symbolizes protection for the local businesses, making this unique street a must-visit.
