Daio Wasabi Farm
The Daio Wasabi Farm (大王わさび農場) in Azumino City near Matsumoto is one of Japan's largest wasabi farms, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors. The farm is renowned for its pristine water sources from the Northern Alps, which flow through a network of small streams, making the wasabi cultivation possible. The farm's scenic walking trails allow visitors to explore the lush fields, and from May to October, the fields are protected by black tarps from the sun.
While walking around, you can visit the Daio Shrine, dedicated to the local hero Hachimen Daio, the protector of the farm. The site also features a small cave linked to his legend. The farm's picturesque water wheels, built for the filming of Kurosawa Akira's "Dreams," add charm to the landscape. Enjoy seasonal boat tours, and visit the shops offering unique wasabi products such as wasabi ice cream, wasabi beer, wasabi noodles, and even wasabi chocolate.
