Kozanji Temple
Kozanji Temple (高山寺), a World Heritage Site dating back to 774, offers a glimpse into Japan's rich history. The temple is home to Japan's first manga, a fascinating scroll that humorously depicts the animals and court life of the Heian Period. This unique artwork is considered an early example of Japanese manga, making Kozanji Temple a must-see for art lovers.
In addition to its historical significance, Kozanji is famous for being the original site of tea cultivation in Japan. The restored tea plantation, open for visitors, allows you to step back in time and learn about the temple’s role in the country’s tea culture. A visit to Kozanji is an enriching journey through both art and tradition.
