Itsukushima Shrine
Itsukushima Shrine (厳島神社, Itsukushima Jinja) on Miyajima Island is famous for its "floating" torii gate, an iconic sight that appears to hover above the water during high tide. This centuries-old Shinto shrine, built over the sea, features stunning architecture, including a prayer hall, main hall, and noh theater stage, all connected by elevated boardwalks. The serene setting, with Mount Misen as a backdrop, adds to the shrine’s mystical charm.
Visitors can explore scenic walking paths, enjoy evening illuminations of the shrine and gate, or take a boat cruise for breathtaking views. During low tide, you can walk up close to the torii gate for an unforgettable experience. A must-visit destination blending history, culture, and nature!

Itsukushima Shrine is absolutely breathtaking! The "floating" torii gate is a magical sight, especially during high tide when it appears to hover over the sea. Walking through the shrine's elevated pathways with the serene waters below was a truly peaceful experience. The history and cultural significance of the shrine are fascinating, and the evening illumination adds a romantic touch to the visit.
During low tide, I loved being able to walk up close to the torii gate, making for some incredible photos. The surrounding scenery, with Mount Misen in the background, completes the picture-perfect setting. A must-visit for anyone exploring Miyajima Island!3 months ago — by Wesley
