Yudono-san
Yudono-san (湯殿山), one of the sacred Dewa Sanzan mountains, is steeped in mystery and reverence. Its shrine is considered the inner sanctum of the trio, symbolizing rebirth in the spiritual pilgrimage. The experience is both unique and secretive, with visitors required to walk barefoot for purification and refrain from discussing or photographing the sacred interior. Set amidst lush mountain scenery, the shrine offers a profound journey of spirituality. The traditional approach via a steep descent from Gas-san adds an adventurous element for hikers.
Easily accessible by a toll road, Yudono-san offers a short shuttle bus ride from the parking lot to its entrance. Visitors are greeted by a serene stone path leading to the shrine. Open only from late spring to autumn, it is typically the final destination for pilgrims exploring Haguro-san and Gas-san. With its deep spiritual atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings, Yudono-san provides a powerful conclusion to the Dewa Sanzan pilgrimage.
