Izumo Taisha (出雲大社), one of Japan's most important and ancient shrines, is located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, known for its deep connection to Japan's creation mythology. The main deity, Okuninushi no Okami, is worshipped here, and visitors pray with four claps for both themselves and their partners. Each year in November, the Kamiari Festival is held, where all of Japan's deities gather for a meeting. The shrine’s impressive architecture, including its 24-meter Main Hall, is a key highlight.

Izumo Taisha has been a center of worship since the 700s and holds a unique tradition where visitors avoid the center lane of the Matsu no Sando, a path reserved for the gods. The shrine’s main building, which has been renovated every 60 years, is surrounded by two sets of fences marking sacred areas. Visitors can explore the grounds and learn more about the shrine’s history at the Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo.
