Hasedera Temple
Hasedera Temple (長谷寺), nestled in the mountains east of Sakurai, offers a serene escape and stunning views. Founded in 686, this head temple of the Bunzan school of Shingon Buddhism is famous for its hillside layout, featuring over 30 buildings to explore. A highlight is the main hall at the top, which boasts breathtaking views, especially during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. The journey begins at the Niomon Gate and continues through a covered corridor with 400 steps, surrounded by history and beauty.
From the balcony of the main hall, you can see the temple's iconic five-story pagoda, gardens, and other structures. The temple's main attraction is a 12-meter tall Kannon statue carved from sacred wood, embodying centuries of devotion. Hasedera is alive with monks, who actively study and move between the temple’s quarters. The charm of the temple town below and the spiritual atmosphere make this destination unforgettable.
