Great Buddha of Kamakura
The Great Buddha of Kamakura (Kamakura Daibutsu) (鎌倉大仏, Kamakura Daibutsu) is a stunning bronze statue of Amida Buddha, located at Kotokuin Temple. Standing 11.4 meters tall, it is the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan, surpassed only by the statue in Nara's Todaiji Temple. Cast in 1252, it was initially housed inside a large temple hall. After multiple destructions by typhoons and a tsunami, the statue has stood in the open air since the late 15th century.
Visitors can marvel at this impressive statue while exploring the beautiful grounds of Kotokuin Temple. The Great Buddha remains a symbol of resilience and beauty, attracting tourists from around the world. It stands as a peaceful reminder of Japan's rich cultural heritage and history.
