Hirosaki Castle
Hirosaki Castle (弘前城) was built in 1611 by the Tsugaru Clan. Located in Hirosaki Park, the castle features a three-story keep, moats, gates, and corner turrets. The original five-story keep was destroyed by lightning in 1627 and rebuilt in 1810. This castle keep is unique in the Tohoku Region, as it has not been rebuilt in modern times. Renovation works are ongoing until 2025, with the keep temporarily moved for preservation.
Hirosaki Park is renowned for its cherry blossoms, with over 2,500 trees, picturesque cherry blossom tunnels, and boat rides. The annual cherry blossom festival, held from April 23 to May 5, attracts many visitors. Inside the park, you'll also find the Hirosaki Castle Botanical Garden and Gokoku Shrine, along with other attractions nearby.
