Odawara Castle

5 of 33 in attractions in Hakone

Odawara Castle (小田原城) was built in the 15th century and became the base of the powerful Hojo Clan. After being attacked by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1590, the Hojo Clan fell, leading to the reunification of Japan. The castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1703 but was rebuilt. In 1960, the keep was reconstructed using ferro-concrete based on Edo Period designs. Today, the castle is famous for its cherry blossoms and stunning views.

The castle features a three-story keep with exhibits on samurai armor and swords. Visitors can enjoy the view from the top floor and explore the park. The grounds also feature a Ninja Museum, where visitors can experience ninja skills and culture, and a Samurai Museum showcasing historical armor and weapons.
