The northern entrance to Uwajima Castle is a 10-15 minute walk from Uwajima Station or a 2-minute walk from the Uwajima Bus Center. From there, it takes another 10-15 minutes to climb up to the main keep.

Uwajima Castle
Uwajima Castle (宇和島城) is one of only twelve original castles remaining from Japan's Edo period. Built in the early 17th century, it was later refurbished by the Date family in 1615. Situated on a hill that once overlooked the sea, the castle now stands inland due to land reclamation. Visitors can enjoy scenic walks up stone steps through the forest, leading to the main keep with its authentic wooden interior. From the top, you can enjoy stunning views of Uwajima City.
Along the way, explore the Yamazato Soko, a storehouse turned small museum. Built in 1845, it houses festival props, old tools, and artifacts such as a rickshaw. The climb to the castle’s three-story keep takes about 10–15 minutes, rewarding visitors with fascinating displays of historical armors, swords, and portraits of the feudal lords who once ruled the region.
