Tsuwano Castle Ruins (津和野城跡) sit majestically atop a mountain ridge, 200 meters above the charming town of Tsuwano. Built in the 12th century and expanded in the 1600s with stone walls, the castle's main keep was tragically destroyed by lightning in 1686 and was never rebuilt. Today, only the stone foundations remain, offering a glimpse into its historic past.

Visitors can reach the ruins via a scenic chair lift, followed by a 15–20 minute hike through the woods. The castle grounds, now covered in grass, showcase impressive stone walls and breathtaking panoramic views of Tsuwano below, making it a rewarding journey for history and nature enthusiasts.
