Fukuoka Castle Ruins

9 of 13 in attractions in Fukuoka

Fukuoka Castle (福岡城跡), also known as Maizuru Castle, is located in Maizuru Park in the heart of Fukuoka city. Built in the early 17th century by Kuroda Nagamasa, the castle was the largest in Kyushu during the Edo Period. After the Meiji Restoration, most of the castle was dismantled, leaving behind only its ruined walls and a few turrets.

Today, visitors can explore the castle ruins and enjoy the park, especially during cherry blossom season. Walking paths lined with cherry trees offer a beautiful, flower-filled experience. The castle grounds also feature reconstructed gates and guard towers, with parts of the moat still visible.
