Echizen Ono Castle

2 of 2 in attractions in Fukui

Echizen Ono Castle (越前大野城) is a hilltop castle in Ono, located 25 km east of Fukui City. Known as a "castle in the sky," it often appears to float above the clouds, giving it a magical, ethereal feel. Originally built in 1575, the castle changed owners several times before being demolished after the Meiji Restoration in 1868.

The current structure, rebuilt in the 1960s using concrete, offers breathtaking views of the town below. Despite being a reconstruction, it still holds the charm of the original castle and remains a popular attraction.
