Nara National Museum
The Nara National Museum (奈良国立博物館, Nara Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan), nestled in the heart of Nara Park, is a must-visit for lovers of Japanese Buddhist art. Established in 1889, it blends historic charm with modern design, connecting its original building to a contemporary wing via an underground passage. The museum showcases a stunning collection of Buddhist statues, scrolls, paintings, and ceremonial artifacts, offering a deep dive into Japan's spiritual heritage.
The museum's new wing also hosts fascinating temporary exhibitions, including an annual display of Todaiji Temple treasures every autumn. A single ticket grants access to both wings, with English explanations available throughout, making it accessible and enriching for all visitors.
