Miho Museum
The Miho Museum, nestled in the forested hills of Koka, is a masterpiece of design by architect I. M. Pei. Founded by Koyama Mihoko, one of Japan's wealthiest women, the museum seamlessly blends architecture and nature. Visitors reach the museum through a scenic approach that weaves through both man-made and natural landscapes, creating a captivating transition into its serene setting. Inside, the design contrasts sleek steel and glass with warm stone, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys.
The museum showcases artifacts from ancient civilizations, including Egyptian, Roman, and Asian cultures, sourced largely from Koyama's private collection. Exhibits change regularly, with annual main exhibitions and rotating special displays. Its harmonious architecture and rich cultural treasures make it a must-visit destination for art and history lovers.
