Chichu Art Museum

Recommended
1 of 9 in attractions in Naoshima Island

The Chichu Art Museum (地中美術館, Chichū Bijutsukan) on Naoshima Island redefines art and architecture. Designed by Ando Tadao, this underground museum blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings, using natural light to illuminate masterpieces. Visitors are captivated by Monet's "Water Lilies," James Turrell's immersive light installations, and Walter De Maria's powerful "Time/Timeless/No Time." Each gallery offers a unique sensory experience deeply connected to nature.

To ensure a peaceful visit, reservations are required, and visitor numbers are limited. Bags and cameras are not allowed and must be stored before entering. Plan ahead to fully enjoy this harmonious fusion of art and environment.
