Kyoto National Museum
Kyoto National Museum (京都国立博物館, Kyōto Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan), one of Japan’s oldest and most prestigious museums, opened in 1897. Situated alongside other top national museums like Tokyo and Nara, it showcases Japan’s cultural heritage through exhibits of ceramics, calligraphy, and more. The modern Heisei Chishinkan building, designed by Taniguchi Yoshio, hosts most exhibitions, while the beautiful Meiji Kotokan is under renovation.
The museum offers a dynamic mix of permanent and special exhibitions throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy cultural relics, sculptures, and temporary art displays, with the peaceful museum garden open during non-exhibition periods.
