The fastest way to get from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama is by the JR Sagano Line (JR Sanin Line). It takes 15 minutes and costs 240 yen. From Saga-Arashiyama Station, it's a 5-10 minute walk to central Arashiyama.

Keifuku Railway’s small trains run from Omiya Station in central Kyoto to Arashiyama in 20 minutes for 250 yen. They also connect to Kitanohakubaicho Station near famous temples like Kinkakuji, Ryoanji, and Ninnaji, but require a transfer. Keifuku Arashiyama Station is right in the center of Arashiyama.

Hankyu Railway offers another route from Kyoto-Kawaramachi or Karasuma Station. Take the Hankyu Main Line to Katsura Station, then transfer to the Hankyu Arashiyama Line. The trip takes about 20 minutes and costs 240 yen. Hankyu Arashiyama Station is across the river, about a 5-10 minute walk from central Arashiyama.

Buses are available but can get stuck in traffic, so trains are the recommended way to reach Arashiyama.
