Daikakuji (大覚寺), located in Kyoto's Sagano district, was originally built as Emperor Saga's detached palace in the 800s. After his death, it became a temple of Shingon Buddhism and is one of its highest-ranked. It played a key role in Japan's history, hosting peace talks in the 12th century and inspiring the Tale of Genji. The temple is a must-see for anyone interested in Kyoto's rich history.

Visitors can explore several buildings, including the Heart Sutra Hall, home to a handwritten copy of the Heart Sutra, and Osawa Pond, a 1,200-year-old garden. The temple’s serene atmosphere and historical significance make it a unique destination, with beautiful gardens popular during cherry blossom and autumn seasons.
