Tofukuji (東福寺, Tōfukuji) is a large Zen temple in southeastern Kyoto, founded in 1236 by the powerful Fujiwara clan. Famous for its stunning autumn colors, the temple is known for its Tsutenkyo Bridge, offering breathtaking views of a valley filled with vibrant maple trees. Visitors flock here in November when the colors peak.

The temple features impressive structures like the 22-meter Sanmon Gate, dating back to 1425. The Hojo Garden, surrounding the head priest's former residence, showcases unique rock gardens. Tofukuji remains one of Kyoto's top Zen temples, with beautiful gardens and architectural gems.
