Tenryuji (天龍寺, Tenryūji), located in Kyoto's Arashiyama district, is a World Heritage Site and one of the city’s most important Zen temples. Founded in 1339 by shogun Ashikaga Takauji, it was built to honor Emperor Go-Daigo. The temple, head of its own Rinzai Zen sect school, has been rebuilt several times due to fires, but its serene garden remains original, designed by Muso Soseki.

The garden features a central pond surrounded by rocks, pine trees, and views of the Arashiyama mountains, offering a tranquil retreat and an exceptional example of Zen landscaping.
