Yasaka Shrine is easily accessible from Kyoto’s central areas. It’s a short walk from Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line or Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Line. Buses from Kyoto Station, such as Kyoto City Bus 100 or 206, also stop near the shrine. The shrine is perfectly placed for exploring the Gion and Higashiyama districts.

Yasaka Shrine
Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社, Yasaka Jinja), also known as Gion Shrine, is one of Kyoto's most iconic landmarks, drawing visitors for over 1350 years. Located between the Gion and Higashiyama districts, the shrine is a natural stop for those exploring the area's charm. Its main hall, a blend of inner sanctuary and offering hall, and the enchanting dance stage adorned with lanterns, create a magical atmosphere, especially when the lanterns light up in the evening.
The shrine is the heart of the famous Gion Matsuri, a spectacular summer festival held every July, featuring grand floats and lively processions. Yasaka Shrine is also a prime spot during Kyoto’s cherry blossom season in early April, with nearby Maruyama Park offering stunning hanami views.
