Kyoto Aquarium

Kyoto Aquarium (京都水族館, Kyōto Suizokukan), located in Umekoji Park near Kyoto Station, opened in 2012. While smaller than other Japanese aquariums, it offers a unique and engaging experience across two floors. The aquarium showcases diverse aquatic life from around the world, including jellyfish, penguins, seals, and even dolphins with daily performances.

A standout feature of Kyoto Aquarium is its river zone, recreating Kyoto’s aquatic environment and featuring the rare Japanese giant salamander. The facility also focuses on preserving local aquatic species through breeding programs, offering a wonderful mix of local and global marine life.
