Fushimi Sake District (伏見) is a historic sake brewing area in southern Kyoto, located along the picturesque Horikawa River. Known for its abundant, soft water from underground springs, the district is home to nearly 40 sake breweries, with Gekkeikan Brewery, founded in 1637, being a notable name. Fushimi, alongside Kobe's Nada District, has been a key sake production hub for centuries. Visitors can tour open breweries, taste exclusive sake, and explore traditional wooden buildings.

The district grew during the Azuchi-Momoyama Period and became a significant sake production site due to its strategic location and water quality. Fushimi also played a role in the Meiji Restoration, with Sakamoto Ryoma staying at the Teradaya Inn nearby, where he survived an assassination attempt. The inn is still open to tourists, offering a glimpse into the area's fascinating history.
