Myoshinji (妙心寺, Myōshinji), a vast Zen temple complex in northwestern Kyoto, features around 50 subtemples. As the head temple of the Myoshinji school in the Rinzai sect, it is the largest Zen temple. Founded in 1337, the complex includes important cultural buildings like the Sanmon Gate and Butsuden Hall.
