Toji Temple (東寺, Tōji), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded in the late 700s and is a significant symbol of Kyoto. The temple was established as one of the city’s guardian temples, alongside its sister temple, Saiji. The temple is home to the five-story pagoda, the tallest wooden pagoda in Japan, and several important structures, including the Kondo Hall and Kodo Hall, which house priceless statues. Visitors can also explore the Homotsukan Museum and enjoy the lively flea market held on the 21st of each month.
