Tsukishima (月島, lit. moon island), a man-made island in Tokyo Bay, is steeped in history and offers a glimpse into both old and modern Tokyo. Created over 100 years ago, Tsukishima was originally formed with soil dredged from the bay during a shipping channel project. Today, the island has transformed into a residential area, yet remnants of traditional Tokyo linger in its back alleys and near Sumiyoshi Shrine, offering a unique blend of past and present.

Known for its delicious monjayaki, Tsukishima boasts numerous monjayaki restaurants along Nishinaka Street, a must-visit for food lovers. Monjayaki is a savory pancake, often served with seafood, meat, and vegetables mixed into the batter. Additionally, the nearby Tsukudajima island, famous for tsukudani (food preserved in soy sauce and sake), adds to the island's culinary appeal. Tsukishima is a food lover’s haven with a rich cultural backdrop.
