Kato Shrine
Kato Shrine (加藤神社) honors Kato Kiyomasa, the influential lord who shaped the region in the 16th and 17th centuries. Visitors flock here, especially during New Year’s, to pray for good luck to Seishoko-san, Kiyomasa’s deity. Known for his engineering feats and undefeated military record, Kiyomasa is revered by builders, athletes, and those seeking success in exams or overcoming challenges.
The shrine has moved several times over its history, from its original location near the castle to its present spot. It boasts a stunning view of the castle and features a ginkgo tree believed to have been planted by Kiyomasa. A stone bridge from Korea, brought back by Kiyomasa himself, is also found here. The shrine honors the loyalty of two of Kiyomasa's retainers who died with him in 1611.
