Nariaiji Temple

4 of 4 in attractions in Amanohashidate

Nariaiji Temple (成相寺), a Shingon sect temple in Western Japan, was originally located at the top of Mount Tsuzumigatake but was moved 250 years ago due to a landslide. Despite the move, it still offers beautiful views of the bay below. Reaching the temple requires a bit of effort, but the journey is well worth it.

One of the 33 temples of the Kansai Kannon Pilgrimage, Nariaiji Temple’s main worship object is a carved wooden statue of Kannon, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. The temple grounds also feature a bell tower with the “bell of neutrality” and a five-story pagoda rebuilt in the 1990s, making it a peaceful and historic site.
