Shinkyo Bridge

5 of 24 in attractions in Nikko

The Shinkyo Bridge (神橋, Shinkyō) is a sacred bridge marking the entrance to Nikko’s shrines and temples. Located at Futarasan Shrine, it is considered one of Japan's three finest bridges, alongside Iwakuni’s Kintaikyo and Saruhashi in Yamanashi Prefecture.

Originally built in 1636, the Shinkyo Bridge has stood at this spot for centuries, though its origins remain unclear. After being closed to the public until 1973, the bridge underwent major renovations in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Now, visitors can walk across the bridge for a small fee.
