Tamozawa Imperial Villa (田母沢御用邸, Tamozawa Goyōtei) is a historic masterpiece blending Edo and Meiji-era architecture across 106 rooms. Originally built in Tokyo, it was relocated to Nikko in 1899 and later expanded into a summer retreat for the Imperial Family. The villa showcases a mix of Japanese and Western influences, with tatami flooring, sliding paper doors, chandeliers, and carpeted rooms. After decades of neglect, it was beautifully restored and opened to the public in 2000.

Today, Tamozawa Imperial Villa serves as a museum and memorial park, offering insight into Japan’s imperial history. Visitors can explore its grand wooden structure, one of the largest surviving in Japan. The surrounding Japanese garden enhances the experience, featuring vibrant maple trees that create a stunning autumn display in late October and early November.
