Onsenji Temple gate and the Kinosaki Ropeway’s lower station are located at the western end of town, near the Kono-yu public bath. It's about a 20-minute walk or a quick bus or taxi ride from Kinosaki Station. From there, you can take the ropeway to the temple's main hall (get off at the "Onsenji" station) or walk up a steep, forested path for 15-20 minutes.

Onsenji Temple
Onsenji Temple (温泉寺), located at the western edge of Kinosaki Onsen, is a peaceful retreat dedicated to a Buddhist saint who prayed for 1000 days to bring spring water to the town. Once, visitors had to visit the temple before entering any of the local baths, though this tradition is no longer common. However, Onsenji Temple remains a popular spot for visitors, offering a tranquil atmosphere and a glimpse into the area's history.
The temple's main attraction is an impressive eleven-headed Kannon Buddha, displayed to the public every 33 years. The next full display will be in 2054, though partial views are available during the Kinosaki Onsen Festival every April 23rd and 24th. Close by, the Onsenji Treasure Museum showcases historic artifacts and temple treasures, adding a cultural touch to the visit.
