Sorakuen Garden

5 of 39 in attractions in Kobe

Sorakuen Garden (相楽園, Sōrakuen) is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Kobe, blending traditional Japanese landscaping with elements of the city’s rich history. Originally part of the residence of Kodera Kenkichi, a former mayor of Kobe, the garden opened to the public in 1941. Stroll along winding paths, admire seasonal flowers, and enjoy the tranquil ponds and stone bridges that create a classic Japanese garden experience.

Adding a touch of Kobe’s international heritage, Sorakuen features unique Western-style architecture. The European-style stable, which survived World War II, showcases Meiji Era design, while the Hassam House, a former foreign trader’s residence built in 1902, was relocated here from the Kitano district. Together, these historical buildings and natural beauty make Sorakuen Garden a must-visit destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
