Danjiri Museum
The Danjiri Museum (だんじり会館, Danjiri Kaikan) is a fascinating destination that introduces visitors to the vibrant Ueno Tenjin Festival, held annually from October 23 to 25. Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by a massive round glass display case showcasing three impressive danjiri (festival floats) and life-sized figures, recreating the festival's lively atmosphere. The museum also features large screens that periodically show a film about the cultural and natural aspects of Iga Ueno, making it an immersive experience.
In the second exhibition room, the Oni-gyoretsu procession is displayed with figures dressed in demon (oni) costumes, offering a glimpse of the festival's street parade. The exhibition highlights the diverse expressions on the demon masks worn by performers, who interact with the crowd during the festival. The museum also offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to rent ninja costumes for a small fee, popular especially with children. Available between 10:00 and 15:00, the costume rental allows tourists to walk around the town or take memorable photos.
