Nagasaki Peace Park
The Nagasaki Peace Park (平和公園, Heiwa Kōen is a serene space dedicated to the memory of those who perished in the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The park is divided into two parts: the Hypocenter Park and the Memorial Park. At the center of the complex, Hypocenter Park features a black monolith marking the epicenter of the explosion. Nearby, visitors can view a damaged pillar from the Urakami Cathedral, which was destroyed in the blast, as well as a section of soil revealing remnants of broken tiles and glass from that tragic day.
Just above the Hypocenter Park, the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum stands as a solemn reminder of the horrors of war, offering exhibitions and information to educate future generations. The nearby Memorial Hall for the victims is located mostly underground and uses light and water to enhance its somber design. Across the street, the Memorial Park showcases the iconic Peace Statue, a fountain, and numerous memorials dedicated to the victims of the bombing, including monuments for Korean and Chinese victims.
