Yushien Garden
Yushien Garden (由志園, Yūshien, also commonly romanized as Yuushien) is a beautiful 40,000 square meter garden located on the quiet Daikonshima Island, nestled in Lake Nakaumi just outside Matsue. Established in 1975, it is most famous for its stunning collection of 250 types of peony flowers, blooming year-round thanks to carefully planned planting. The garden also offers a picturesque blend of traditional landscape elements, such as a central pond, waterfalls, streams, stone lanterns, a rock garden, and seasonal flowers.
One of the highlights is the Peony Festival, held annually from late April through May, where the garden bursts into color. In addition to the flowers, visitors can enjoy indoor peony displays, stroll through the scenic pathways, and relax at the café overlooking the pond. The garden is also known for its winter illuminations and showcases Daikonshima Island’s peony-growing history.
