Lake Nakaumi
Lake Nakaumi (中海) is the fifth-largest lake in Japan, renowned for its rich wildlife and stunning natural beauty. This brackish lake is connected to the Sea of Japan via the Sakai Channel and to Lake Shinji through the Ohashi River. The lake features two main islands, Daikonshima and Eshima, which are linked by bridges and roads, offering visitors an opportunity to explore both islands.
Eshima Island, one of the two main islands, is connected to Tottori Prefecture by a rigid frame bridge that rises 45 meters above sea level, providing breathtaking views of Mount Daisen. Since 2006, Lake Nakaumi and Lake Shinji have been designated as Ramsar Convention Wetlands of International Importance, further highlighting their environmental significance. These lakes, together with their surrounding landscapes, make for a unique and captivating destination for nature enthusiasts.
