Takayama Jinya is located in the old town district near the Nakabashi Bridge. It's just a 10-minute walk from Takayama Station.

Takayama Jinya
Takayama Jinya (高山陣屋), located in the Hida Region, was once the government office for the Tokugawa Shogunate. Built in 1692, it served as the headquarters for officials sent from Edo (now Tokyo). In use until 1969, it is now a museum, offering a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved tatami rooms. Visitors can explore the rooms once used as offices, conference rooms, guest areas, and living quarters. The interrogation room is a fascinating feature.
Next to the main building is a large traditional rice storehouse, dating back to the 1600s. Known as the largest of its kind in Japan, it houses exhibits about the Hida Region’s past. You’ll find old maps, documents, and historical items related to the local leaders and their time in office.
