Seisonkaku Villa

6 of 21 in Kanazawa

Seisonkaku Villa (成巽閣, Seisonkaku), located in the southeast corner of Kenrokuen Garden, was built by a Maeda lord in the final years of the Edo Period for his mother. This elegant villa is one of the finest remaining samurai residences in Japan. The villa boasts expansive tatami rooms spread across two floors, offering a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the samurai.

A standout feature of Seisonkaku is its roof, designed to cover a garden viewing deck without obstructing the view, preserving the beauty of the surrounding garden. The villa has a direct entrance to Kenrokuen, though a separate admission fee is required. Both Japanese and English signage make it easy for visitors to explore this historic and serene location.
