Kamikochi (上高地, Kamikōchi), nestled in the Northern Japan Alps of Nagano Prefecture, is a breathtaking mountain resort renowned for its stunning alpine landscapes. Open from mid-April to mid-November, this picturesque destination spans a 15-kilometer plateau along the Azusa River at an elevation of 1500 meters. Visitors can admire towering peaks like Okuhotakadake, Maehotakadake, and the active volcano Yakedake, making Kamikochi a haven for nature lovers and hikers alike.
Part of Chubu Sangaku National Park, Kamikochi offers a tranquil retreat with limited development, including a few hotels, mountain huts, and scenic trails. To preserve its natural beauty, private cars are banned, and access is solely by bus or taxi.
