From late April to November, the Karuizawa Aka Bus runs hourly between the Manpei Hotel, Karuizawa Ginza, and Usui Pass Observation Platform for 500 yen, or you can take a 10-minute taxi for 2000 yen, or walk uphill in 40-50 minutes.

Usui Pass Observation Platform
The Usui Pass Observation Platform (碓氷峠見晴台, Usui Tōge Miharashidai) offers breathtaking views of the mountains, with a stunning outlook over Gunma Prefecture on one side and Mount Asama on the other. Located about 4 kilometers northeast of Kyu-Karuizawa town, this platform is perfectly situated on the border between Gunma and Nagano Prefectures. It's an ideal spot for visitors seeking panoramic views and a peaceful atmosphere.
Nearby, you'll find the Kumano Kotai Shrine, another site of interest. The shrine is also located on the border between Gunma and Nagano. It features three halls, with the main hall (hongu) sitting on top of the border, while the Nachi and Shingu halls are on either side in Nagano and Gunma, respectively. A branch of the Kumano Sanzan shrines, the Kumano Kotai Shrine is a must-see for those exploring the area.
