Shiraito Waterfall
Shiraito Waterfall (白糸の滝, Shiraito no Taki), located in the forests north of Karuizawa, is known for its unique, wide appearance. Although only three meters high, it stretches 70 meters across, with water flowing like white threads over the rocks. The waterfall is formed by groundwater that surfaces from volcanic layers above, rather than a river, and is little affected by weather changes. This gives it a steady flow year-round.
The waterfall’s name, Shiraito no Taki, translates to "the waterfall of white threads," perfectly describing its delicate appearance. It is most beautiful in summer when the vegetation is lush and green, but it also attracts visitors in autumn for stunning fall foliage. A peaceful and picturesque destination, Shiraito Waterfall is a must-see in Karuizawa.
