In Onomichi, the town center is small and easy to explore on foot, but be ready for some uphill and downhill walking since the town is built on hills. Onomichi has two train stations: Onomichi Station (served by local JR trains) near downtown, and Shin-Onomichi Station (served by the shinkansen), about 3 km to the north. You can travel between them by bus (15 minutes, 190 yen) or taxi (10 minutes, 1400–1800 yen).
Onomichi is also a popular starting point for the Shimanami Kaido cycling route, with two bike rental terminals near Onomichi Station. Short ferry rides (60–100 yen) connect the town to nearby Mukaishima Island, and longer ferries go to other islands, like Setoda Port (40 minutes, 1300 yen), where you can visit the Hirayama Museum and Kosanji Temple.
