From Tokyo to Onomichi

From Tokyo, you can take the Shinkansen to Onomichi, but since only Kodama trains stop at Shin-Onomichi Station, you’ll need to transfer at Okayama or Fukuyama — sometimes also in Osaka if using Hikari. The trip takes about 4 hours with Nozomi or 5 hours with Hikari and costs around 18,000 yen one way. The Japan Rail Pass covers Hikari, Sakura, and Kodama trains, but you’ll need to pay extra for Nozomi.

From Tokyo (Shinjuku), you can take the "Etoile Seto" overnight bus to Onomichi. The trip takes about 11 hours and costs 11,700 yen one way or 21,100 yen round trip. It's run by Chugoku Bus and Odakyu Bus and stops in Onomichi on the way to Mihara.

From Osaka, take the Shinkansen to Shin-Onomichi, but since only Kodama trains stop there, you’ll need to transfer from a Sakura or Nozomi train at Fukuyama. The full trip takes about 90 minutes and costs around 8,000 yen. Tourists can get a discount ticket for 6,800 yen by taking the Shinkansen to Fukuyama and then a local train to Onomichi Station. The Japan Rail Pass covers Kodama and Sakura trains, but not Nozomi or Mizuho without extra fees. The JR Kansai Hiroshima Pass and JR Sanyo Sanin Pass cover all trains.
