Nariwa Museum

7 of 10 in Bitchu-Takahashi

The Nariwa Museum (成羽美術館, Nariwa Bijutsukan), located in Nariwa Town near Takahashi, is an art museum designed by the world-renowned architect Ando Tadao in 1994. Known for his signature use of unvarnished concrete and sharp lines, Tadao’s design creates a modern and sleek space for art lovers. The museum's main exhibition showcases works by Kojima Torajiro, a Western-style painter born in Nariwa, along with items from his personal collection, including ancient Egyptian artifacts.

In addition to Kojima’s works, the museum also features fossils found in the Nariwa region, famous for being home to one of Japan’s oldest forests, dating back over 200 million years. Visitors can also enjoy the museum's peaceful inner water garden and relax at the small cafe or shop while soaking in the tranquil surroundings.
