Fukiya Village is small, and all the attractions within the main town are easy to reach on foot. The Sasaune Mine is about a 20-minute walk (one kilometer) south of the village.

Sasaune Mine
Sasaune Mine (笹畝坑道), a fascinating glimpse into the area's copper mining history. This former copper mine shaft is open to the public, providing a unique underground experience. The temperature inside remains a cool 15 degrees Celsius year-round, making it a refreshing stop. Visitors can explore the relatively long main shaft, which opens into a spacious chamber leading to other tunnels. Throughout the mine, mannequins depict how workers once mined copper and melanterite, the raw material used to produce the famous red iron oxide, known as bengara.
The mine highlights the region's industrial past and gives visitors an immersive experience of historical mining techniques. As you walk through the dimly lit tunnels, you'll see the tools and methods used by miners to extract valuable resources. This journey into the depths of Sasaune Mine not only showcases the area's rich mining heritage but also provides an educational and memorable adventure for all ages.
