In Izumo, the main train station is Izumoshi Station, which connects you to Matsue and other parts of Japan by JR trains. You can also take the local Ichibata Railway from here to reach nearby spots like Izumo Taisha and Matsue.
Most tourist attractions, including the famous Izumo Taisha Shrine, are a bit north of the city center. You can get there in about 25 minutes by bus or by taking the Ichibata Railway (with one transfer). If you're flying in, Izumo Airport is just outside the city and has buses to Izumoshi Station that take about 30 minutes.
