From Yamaguchi to Tsuwano

From Yamaguchi City, you can reach Tsuwano by train in about 50 to 100 minutes. Limited express trains take around 50 minutes and cost about ¥2,500, while local trains take about 100 minutes with a transfer and cost ¥1,170. On selected days outside winter, the SL Yamaguchi steam train runs once daily between Shin-Yamaguchi and Tsuwano, taking 2 hours. A reserved seat costs an extra ¥530 on top of the regular fare. All these trains are fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass.
From Matsue to Tsuwano

From Matsue, you can take a limited express train to Tsuwano in about 3 hours for ¥6,000, stopping at Izumo on the way (2.5 hours, ¥5,500 from Izumo). You can also go by local trains via Masuda in about 3.5 hours for ¥3,410. All options are fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass.
From Hagi to Tsuwano

From Hagi, you can reach Tsuwano by bus in 100 minutes (¥2,200, not covered by the Japan Rail Pass) or by train via Masuda in over 3 hours (¥1,690, fully covered by the pass).
